Upgrades without a list to copy.
Forever changed itemization enough that Classic rankings need re-checking against live tooltips. Here is what changed, a checklist that works at any level, and the loot conversation to have before the run — not during it.

How to judge an item
What changedUnified numbers, familiar names
Forever unifies hit and critical chance across attack types, gives caster weapons spell damage and healing, and lets bonus healing contribute one-third as much damage. Weapon skill remains relevant, equipment can carry situational effects, and dungeon and quest rewards have been reworked (fact wf-0116). One caution from the research: a leading hit guide explicitly leaves a residual-miss question untested, so no prelaunch formula here becomes a universal confirmed cap.
The checklistSix questions before you equip
Can you equip it now, and can your class use the weapon or armor type? Which activity are you improving — solo combat, tanking, healing, PvP, another role? What does the current tooltip say, including restrictions and special effects? Does it address a problem you actually have? What do you give up — defensive value, resource sustainability, money, another slot? And how soon are you likely to replace it?
By roleEvaluate the setup, not the slot
Tanking: reliable control, survivability, resource use, the group's demands. Weapon damage: how the weapon and its skill interact with your abilities, useful uptime, available equipment. Spell damage: relevant effects, target lifetime, resource sustainability, movement. Healing: useful healing, recovery, range and positioning, survival under pressure. Solo and PvP: damage, control, survival, and recovery across the whole activity. Interpret every comparison with your class card in Primer 04.
The evidence boundaryWhat this guide will not claim
The reviewed sources do not establish final level-60 stat weights, complete launch drop tables, verified proc rates, or a universal best-in-slot list. A good guide discloses whether a candidate item was observed in Forever, calculated from a model, or borrowed from another version of the game. This one does.
Before an expensive acquisition
Record the current problem, the role and activity, the current item and the candidate with exact tooltips, the acquisition evidence (seen in Forever, officially described, dated database entry, or unverified inheritance), the benefit under conditions you actually expect, the trade-off, the total cost including travel and time, and a practical alternative — a quest, a craft, a dungeon drop. Then decide: acquire, defer, test, or reject, with a short reason. Compare sessions honestly afterwards; different enemy levels, group support, travel, and lucky drops can overwhelm the effect of a small upgrade.
The loot agreement Guild procedure
Before the run, record the main-role priority, the alternate-role procedure, appearance expectations, the tie-break method, and who resolves a dispute. Discuss unusual items before anyone binds them. If the group changes membership, restate the agreement. Silence is not consensus.
