The native client first.
Forever's built-in interface does more than returning players expect. Settle it before installing anything, admit addons one at a time against a written problem, and keep a configuration you can return to.

The first setup
Make it readable
Open Options and make your health and resource information readable; open Edit Mode and bring what you use into one comfortable viewing area. The client also builds in a Damage Meter, a Cooldown Manager (off by default; Options, then Gameplay Enhancement), and a Swing Timer (fact wf-0215, secondary).
Bind for pressure
Set reachable keys for frequent abilities, interruption and control, emergency defense, and consumables — and keep targeting and movement comfortable while those keys are held. Test simultaneous actions: move while using a main skill, move while targeting, answer with a defensive.
Frame your role
Make party frames prominent if you heal; make the target and its target clear if you tank. Give pets explicit attack and return controls rather than relying entirely on automatic behavior.
Practice safely
Run the setup against a safe target before taking it into a dungeon. A useful interface answers four questions: what am I attacking, who is in danger, what can I use now, and what must I react to?

Questie — quest information and tracking; official releases include Forever support and continuing fixes (release 12.3.1 with QuestieDB 1.0.9, dated October 26 — version evidence, not a claim every quest is correct). Leatrix Plus — optional quality-of-life features with a Forever-specific release. Auctionator — auction interface and price assistance with Forever support. Forever-specific builds also existed by late October for Details!, DBM, TomTom, and Bartender4, among others (fact wf-0214, secondary). Forever has its own AddOns folder; nothing carries over from Retail, Classic, or beta installs, and Classic Era addons do not load.
Two honesty notes
Addons run under Retail-style in-combat API restrictions — secret combat values and a restricted combat log (fact wf-0213, secondary). And WeakAuras has no Forever version under those restrictions; community replacements exist, but do not plan an interface around it (fact wf-0214). Admission rule for everything else: write the problem before installing the solution, record the project, maintainer, game version, and source, install one addon, confirm it loads and does the intended job, then restart before adding the next. Installation success does not establish quest accuracy or compatibility with every other addon.
